Meet the team: Thor!

Thor Stoddard

You know him as Thor, but when he’s in trouble, his mother may still call him by his full name: Eugene Thor Stoddard. Yes, Thor is actually a given name.

Thor was born in Santa Monica, Calif. and lived in LA until he was 11, when his family moved to Nampa, Idaho. He had his first craft beer in 2000, when he was an 18-year-old culinary student. During a beer appreciation class, he learned about the brewing process beer styles, and beer and food pairings. He also had the opportunity to try beers ranging from Stone’s Arrogant Bastard to Lindeman’s Lambics. After that, he was hooked.

“I started reading about home brewing when I was 22, but didn’t make my first batch till 2009,” says Thor. “At first it was just to understand more about how beer is made, as I find that my appreciation of things stems with my knowledge of how it’s made. I got a part time job moonlighting Fremont Brewing, working the tasting room two nights a week while still keeping my day job as a restaurant manager/chef. I was able to quit my job in restaurants and go full-time at Fremont in 2012 as their tasting room manager. In November 2013, I moved over to Reuben’s Brews and never looked back.”

Here’s a little more about Thor:

The fine group of co-workers I have.

That Thor is my middle name.

If you could be any beer style, which would you be and why?

I would go with an English Mild. It’s an easy-going, surprisingly flavorful low-alcohol beer that you can have with lunch and dinner. That’s me in a nutshell.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Super strength!

Any other random fun facts or weird hidden talents that you’d like to share?

No, I’m pretty boring… Except for…um, never mind, I don’t talk about that.
